Class of 2004, Nursing, Chief Nursing Officer, Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital

Q: What originally brought you to Butler Community College?

A: Butler has a reputation for being one of the best nursing programs in the country, and that reputation drew me in. As a new wife and mother, the convenience of staying close to home was important, and Butler provided an affordable, high-quality education right in my hometown. From the moment I arrived on campus, I felt welcomed and supported, which made my decision even easier.

Q: Is there a faculty member, mentor, class, or experience at Butler that had a lasting impact on you?

A: One person who had a lasting impact on me was Janice Jones, one of my nursing instructors. She helped me realize that nursing is about much more than caring for patients. She taught me the importance of professionalism, lifelong learning, and sharing knowledge with others. Her influence helped shape the nurse and leader I am today.

Q: What are you doing today, and how did your time at Butler help shape your path?

A: Today, I serve as the chief nursing officer at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital while pursuing a Doctorate of Education. I hold a BS in Nursing and an MS in Nursing Administration. Butler provided the foundation for my nursing career and helped me develop a love of learning. The message that learning should never stop was emphasized throughout my time there. I may not have fully understood what that meant at the time, but it stayed with me and continues to guide both my education and professional growth.

Q: What does being a Butler alum mean to you?

A: Being a Butler alum means being part of a tradition of excellence and service. I am proud to have graduated from one of the most respected nursing programs in the country. One of the most rewarding parts of that connection is having the opportunity to return to Butler and speak with future nurses. Butler helped shape my career, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back by investing in the nurses who will follow me.
